I'm having a possible problem with my stock flash hider (RRA upper, 16" barrel, I guess it's an "A2" flash hider? )-- in the course of working with my rifle, I removed it with a crescent wrench (I worked it slightly both directions before it loosened enough to remove it). According to some info I found (TM9-1005-319-10.pdf page 136 (96) ) when it is attached properly, the middle hole/port (3rd) should be "straight up", aligned with the center of the front sight post. I didn't note the initial position of the flash suppressor before I removed it -- but I discovered that when I re-attached it, it turns too far -- the middle slot/port goes past the center of the top of the barrel. Instead, it rests almost 1/4 of a full turn past this point before it becomes too hard to turn any farther. The documentation refers to the compensator being "set at the factory" and "leeps the muzzle down during automatic fire". [sic] Even though my rifle is only semi-automatic, I'm still concerned that I might have damaged the threads and / or that improper attachment might cause problems. I noticed the crush washer underneath the flash hider and I did replace it when I replaced the flash hider. Since the alignment was off, I also tried removing the washer before putting the hider back on, but the orientation is still off by 1/4 turn (this time it stops short on the opposite side as opposed to when the washer is present). Any suggestions or caveats? Thanks! |
I used the same one, so if they are one-time use, then that would seem to account for the difference in position. |
