Not sure if this belongs here but thought I would give it a try. I have a cam pin that won't pass by the gas key. DPMS pin with what appears to be very good quality carrier of unknown origins. It doesn't contact much, at least as far as I can tell. DPMS known for slightly oversized pins? What to do?

Could the the key be bent?

I once bought a brand new carrier / bolt I where the cam slot was milled a few degrees off. Not only wouldn't the cam pin pass the gas key (which already had a generous relief cut on it) but the slot being off also made the bolt not fully lockup / over rotate. The bolt would lock up ok when in the rifle by the slot the cam pin rides in, but it was still not the best situation.

Dano's post below is another possibility which I have seen as well, and is probably what is wrong with your carrier.

Relief cut on the bottom/side of the key is not deep enough.  The quick solution is to just take a small jewelers file and draw file the  relief cut deeper to allow the cam to clear.

If you want to go to the next level, just replace the key with one produced correctly, but you will need to replace the key screws since they are a "one time use", and don't forget to re-peen the key metal back into the sides of the nut spines after the bolts have been torque to 37 in lbs.

I agree with Dano. I have one that was a bear to get apart. The rifle would work with no problems. It would not come out by hand, but you could persuade it with slight pressure with a small screwdriver. It would go together no problems. I filed it down just a tad. and now it comes apart easier, but not like some other well worn out rifles I have had the pleasure to use.
