Had a great father / son shooting day today.

Just as we were winding down. my man-cub (no. 2 son, sergeant, one each) discovered that the bolt catch buffer and spring had just disappeared on his M4gery.

Anyone else ever seen that happen?  The bolt catch roll pin is tightly in place and the bolt catch is complete and intact.

ETA:  Its fixed.  The repair involved a drill press and its not that uncommon (its at least common enough for the gunsmith to say "yup, it'll just take me a minute").  There was no visible cause (right spring, right buffer, hole appropriate size, no dirt or other crud, etc.).

Bolt catch plunger compress into the hole and get jammed in the hole?

Might be.  Can't see it so I guess we'll have to take the roll pin out (have to anyway).

FYI: it should be loaded spring first into the receive spring hole, then buffer, hence buffer in between the spring and bolt catch.

Between us, my man-cub and I have built 14 ARs.  This one we didn't build (store-bought).

We'll see when I drive the roll pin out.
