I bought my first AR-15, a Colt 6920, and have a question about the charging handle....I have yet to load any bullets into the gun. When I pull the charging handle back with an empty mag, the handle dosen't lock completly back, but slides back and forth....Is this what it's supposed to do? Sorry if this question is dumb, but I know NOTHING about the gun. Thanks, Scott |

When you normally charge the first round, you twang the charging handle like a bow and arrow. Pull it all way back then let it fly like a bow string. Do not "ride" the charging handle. There are dynamic functions in the autoloader that will not run properly if tried in slow motion. If you want to lock the bolt carrier group to the rear, insert an empty magazine and cycle the action, or push in on the bottom nib of the bolt carrier release handle while holding back with the charging handle. The 6920 will be stiff starting out. Lube often with BF CLP or better until the carbine gets broken in (few hundred rounds). Beware of crappy mags. I hope you got two of the Colt straight 20's with yours. Some folks recommend staying with brass cased ammo to start out. Welcome to the forum. |
