Hey folks. I got an AR not too long ago and noticed today the rear sight is on an angle. It is not parallel with the rest of the charging handle. Is there a way to tighten it down? I can move it a bit, but it settles back into place on a bit of an angle. It really has not affected accuracy whatsoever. Hitting everything at 100-200 yards. Haven't tried anything further than that. Thoughts? don't worry about it? http://www.infusemed.com/rearsight.jpg |
There is a ball and spring on the front left hand side of the sight housing that makes the housing track only one side of the upper receiver. This design works best since the rifle is a service unit by design, and allows the rear sight to take a hit and keep functioning.![]() As for my personal taste/ tolerances to the amount of twist, as long as the left hand front outer edge of the housing edge doesn't clear the left hand outer edge of the upper receiver when spring loaded, then all is good. Yours looks to be right at the border line, but track the sight housing upward and see just how much cant is removed before you make the final call (read the closes you will shoot in a CMP match is 200 yards anyway (unless you are shooting at ranges that have to go 100 yard mod targets since it's the longest lanes they have), and at a 600 yard setting, lets just say that you could cram a cat in the gap you will have between the bottom of housing and top of receiver. |
The sight housing and upper receiver get drilled and threaded for guide rods (read so the sight housing tracks the new rods, instead of the old upper side ear). 99? of the work is done on a mills, so you would need to send the upper out to have it done. Here is one of the companies that is doing the mod. www.compasslake.com/ |
