i went to the range today with two ars in 556 caliber........  both have uppers that have made numerous trips to the range without any noteable failures, but both were on lowers that i just assembled and both were taken apart to install  ff hanguards ( my first time ) one functioned properly with bushy internals the other had cheaper internals it didnt function properly..........  i had four rounds out of about fifty that didnt fire with a very slight indention where the fireing pin barely touched the primer......  does this mean that the hammer spring in the cheaper lpk is the problem ??????   or what could cause this????  i dont recall ever seeing this before atleast not four in one day out of two different types of ammo!!!!!    oh yeah they were clean when i got there too
                               thanks all help is appreciated

It could be the hammer spring.  Make sure it is installed correctly.  If it is installed correctly then you can try swapping it with the one that works to make sure that the spring is the problem.

Just out of curiosity what type of ammo were you using?  Hard primers are a possibility but if it happened with two types this is less likely.

ok............  i was using alabama ammo reloads and pmp,, but i think i got this fixed ,, i did what you said and checked the spring!!! guess what??? upon close examination i noticed that the spring looked like it was in correctly but it was turned upside down  of what it should have been in other words the straight part of the spring where it comes out of the coil was turned up when it should have been down so i took it out put it in right and it feels to have twice as much tension as before ............... so off to the range i go
            thanks ssn_doc

No worries.  I'm happy to share the experience gained from mistakes I have made or have seen.  It's always satisfying to solve a problem without having to spend any more money on it.  This problem sounded familiar.
