I recently received a new rifle, everything looked good at first. After I installed the Vltor handgaurd on it the FSB appears to be canted to the left.

Is there anything I can do to determine if it is the FSB or the handgaurd? Should I just have a smith look at it?

Before installation of the Vltor I had to pop out that pin for the sling swivel. I really didn't hit it very hard with the mallet, but could this have caused my problem?

It's possible your FSB rotated a bit from the hammer blows to the punch when removing the swivel but I doubt it. I would see if the rifle zeroes with the sights close to centered. If your rear aperture is near center and hitting point of aim, your FSB can't be too far off.

I am considering just "going for it" and shooting it. I am just nervous about the gas ports not being properly aligned.

What are the chances of damage being caused if they are out of alignment?

Thank you for the info.

Maybe a single shot rifle if not aligned but no damage will be done!
