When going from SAFE to FIRE, it is smooth and easy. However, when going from FIRE to SAFE, I damn near break my thumb everytime. I don't see anything that would be causing the binding. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Maybe the detent dimple in the selector might be fouled up or have a burr in the metal?  Strip it down and check it out.
