Over the summer, I purchased a Stag Arms 2H Upper with a flat top receiver and flip-up BUIS. Upon taking it to the range, even with the rear aperture windage ALL the way to the right, it was still shooting 1" to the left. Since I was going to use this new upper for my project, I just figured it was a FSB issue and did not care, since I was going to remove the FSB anyways. Since I could not get the FSB off no matter how hard I hammered the pins, I just decided to dremel it down! It was going to be covered by a 10" Troy free float tube so I didn't care. After installing the 10" Troy free float tube (which clamps down on the barrel nut) and also the Troy front flip up sight, it was STILL shooting soo far to the left that my rear aperture windage had to go ALL the way to the right again. This is where my problem is, since it CAN NOT be a FSB issue since I cut it down and it is NOT being used to aim. I have also taken off the Stag Arms Upper Receiver and used it with my other Bushmaster barrel assembly on another build and it works great with little or no windage adjustments! I purchased a flat top CMT receiver to use with the Stag Arms barrel assembly (with the trimmed down FSB) and I am STILL having the same problem with the windage! This has lead me to the conclusion that the Stag Arms barrel is somehow canted to the right (it even looks a little crooked to the left, not being centered in the Troy tube). Returning it to the vendor or manufacturer is out of the question for now. Can any of you guys confirm my conclusions? If it is the problem, how would I go about to fix it and/or if I had to take it to a gunsmith any estimate costs? If the costs are greater than $100, would it just be more logical to just buy a new barrel then? |

Pull the barrel off the upper, If the barrel is not bent, the barrel extension was property seated and/or the upper receiver socket threads cracked/bent from being over tightened, Then chances are the upper was not produced correctly (upper barrel socket not indexed milled with the bore line/upper line of the upper receiver. Note: With the rear sight needed to be cranked right, the barrel muzzle would be aiming/cocked left of the centerline from it’s starting point. With the amount of extreme you have, you should be able to straight edge down the sides of receiver against the barrel to confirm that the upper barrel socket has problems. |
