Hey,
i just did my frist build off a complete dpms upper and a stirped lower

I insert an empty mag and cock the bolt back, but when i let go the bolt catch doesnt catch the bolt open.  It only works when i manualy pull the bolt catch lever on the side of the gun and release the bolt.

the mags seem like they function correctly..  FYI,it has brown magpul folowers.

what might be the issue?   spring is too stiff.. i'm breaking it in.. and it seems to work

Question 2; when the bolt is locked open, can i just press the bolt catch lever??  or do i have to pull the charging handle back, hold the bolt catch lever then release..?thanks

You may have the wrong spring in the bolt catch hole, did you assemble the lower receiver yourself? it is easy to get the disco spring and the bolt catch spring mixed up.  The top of the magazine follower should push up the bolt catch when inserted empty, if the wrong spring or some gunk is making the detent tight, it can cause the bolt catch to be sticky and not operate properly.  Try punching out the pin and making sure everything is nice and loose.  Also, the bolt can safely be released with just the bolt catch button from lock back position, do not "ride" the charging handle, just let it fly forward on it's own.  Good luck.

you can press on the bottom of the bolt catch opposite the finger pad to raise it up into position with the charge handle back to lock the weapon open, with the bolt locked open, press the finger pad to lower the catch and allow the bolt forward.

you might consider getting the correct spring and changing it out.
