At what point should you go and change out the barrel, OR usually how many rounds it it good for, Its a DPMS if it makes a difference.

Normal accuracy life for a non-chrome lined barrel is around the 3 to 8K mark before it starts opening up the groups.  On a Chromed lined barrels, they may not group as tight a non-chrome lined barrel, but will hold true for upwards into the 20-40K mark before you start to see the groups open up.

If you want to just go for at what point is the barrel no longer safe to shoot, then throat erosion and even barrel rifling life has little to do with this math, and you may be able to take a barrel/chamber well into the 80K or more mark.

Bottom line is a head space, and what the barrel is producing down range should be your gauges, and not depend on a specific round count for any worn out bench mark.
