| What are(is) some of the problems that could cause this? THE rifle in question did it on three occasions with less than 60 rounds fired recently. It was shot several times and then all of a sudden boom boom with only one trigger pull, after the third time we felt like it was a definate issue and not operator induced. The rifle in question is a colt match hbar with a low round count and no noticiable damage or any part change outs.I want to tell this dude to send it to colt or find out here if there might be an easy check up and change out of a possible part.We are just sitting here scratching our heads. |

With a low round count, I'm guessing that the rifle is semi new and either a trip back to where he bought it, of off the colt will get the problem solve if it was not something induced by him. In regards to the disco's, Colt did offer a gem of one a while back, but with a new semi rifle, you shouldn't have one of these albatross disco's in the rifle. The other item that comes to mind is if your “friend” pulled the FCG apart to give it a good cleaning, and forgot to, or installed the disco spring wrong. The disconnector spring should be installed with the large coil side down into the back of the trigger slot. Since it wouldn't just drop in (it has to be forced into place), he may have installed it small coil side down thinking it was the correctly orientation. Also on the subject of your friend, did P.S.I don’t blame my own mistakes on a friend, I blame it all on the dog. Now If I can just keep the pup from running the lathe, all of these projects he has destroyed would have been long finished by now. |
| Well, what can I say;I don't own a dog and he does not either I got to say that I have took mine apart and changed out stuff but will not touch anyone elses' cars, guns, lawnmowers and etc. cause I learned the hard way that other problems can develop. When it comes to working on cars I will not work on old worn out stuff cause I learned early that replacing 1 part causes more problems to arise;and then you can be accused of doing wrong.Back to the hbar I thought I had stated that no changes had been done and nothing was taken apart to be cleaned and put back in backwards.Maybe I can feed him some bull about AKs and sell him 1 of mine and buy that gun cheap (it seems to group really tight) hahaha.I started thinking though that when I saw the way he shot it off the bench that he had his fist balled up under the pistol grip and when the gun was shot and came back it migfht have caused a double tap.Maybe a few mags shot of hand can be in order just to check out out this rather strange theory.I still say send it to colt but what the hell! |

If the rifle is not under warranty, the cost is going to get a little spendy if you send it to Colt. Instead, a better option would be to post in your hometown forum to see if there is someone close you two that can give the rifle a once over. With the rifle being on the newer side, it may just be that there is some debris or a bur between the disco and the trigger slot slightly binding up the disco. Chances are just pulling the FCG and giving it a good cleaning and lube may the only correction needed. |

I am having the same problem, picked up a used one this weekend, first half mag and singles of testing were fine, then it started doubling, two rounds only, each time, is the trigger group the main culprit ( this is my first ar, so the mags, ammo and rifle are all unproven) just take it back to where i got it and have em look at it? |
