my BHO catch is apparently broken. it will not work even manually pulling to bolt back and engaging it with the button. also will not engage cycling with an empty UGI mag in the magwell. it will work if i manually engage the button and gently release the bolt onto it. the BHO is kinda sloppy on the lower, but does not have chips or noticable wear, pin does not appear to be broken, but have not taken it out yet to verify ? |
| This happend to me. I relized that I had put a A2 stock buffer spring in my 4 postion car stock on accident. The rifle actually still fired , but the BHP would not work, even if I tried to do it manually. I imagine its from too much force from the spring. This might or might not be your problem. |

Check to see if the catch extension piece (the part that the mag follower lifts up on) is broken. Also try a few different mags to weed out if the mag follower is binding in the mag, or the mag spring is just weak/worn out. When all else fails, shotgun the rifle open and insert an empty mag while watching the bolt hold open device. To add to paul_the_welder’s post, pull back on the charging handle all the way, and look at the face of he bolt. It should be about 1/4" in front of the back of the ejection port. Since you did not list the configuration of the rifle, if A-2, you may have forgot to insert the receiver extension spacer, and now the butt stock screw is protruding into the receiver extension cavity, and instead of the catch locking back on the face of the bolt when depressed manually, it's only catching the carrier it's self. |

i will check those out i had tried multiple mags. it is a M4 upper with CAR stock and H buffer. buffer spring is pretty new, CAR length ETA: fixed now. swapped in another spring and carrier now goes all the way back. old spring was not allowing carrier to move all the way back, guess it was not mil spec. measured the correct lenght but the coils were a little too thick |
