Hello folks,

Picked up a new AR A-2 upper the other day -- 20 inch chromed barrel, skinny under the handguards, 1 X 7 twist.

Snapped in on my Bushy lower and it is truly a joy to shoot -- except for one thing . . .

Dang thing shoots to the right   ! !   I need to move the rear sight 12 clicks to the left to get it to center at 100 yards.

My other AR's "centered" within 3-4 clicks either way.

Shoots like a dream, but looks funky with the rear sight over to the left.

What to do !?!?!?

Thanks  ! !

Is your rifle's front sight adjustable like some I've seen? If so, you could easily cant the front site some. If it was too bad, I'd take a freaking hammer to the front sight if it wasn't adjustable and make it adjustable . But then again, in the work I do, one motto is: if it won't fit, get a bigger hammer. No one has ever accused me of treating my rifle like a safe queen

Nope -- no adjustable front sight.  Pinned to the barrel.

Can you REALLY give the front sight a wack and get away with it ?!?!?!?

Leather mallet will drift the barrel in the upper receiver socket without leaving a mark.

Grab the upper receiver only in one hand, then make a blow to the FSB just above the barrel.  The impact will rotate/slip the whole barrel in the upper socket and re-index the barrel (FSB) to the needed position.

How do you know your other AR isn't out of spec with off center index marks? *hint* measure the ones in my pic

Seriously though, you made me check my A2. It took 10 clicks left windage to zero. Never really noticed until now. I don't think another 2 clicks would look funky either.

Shoot the heck out of it.

windage 10 left

I have the same problem only mine shoots way to the left. When you whack the FSB, is the barrel nut tight or do you loosen it first?

Barrel nut tight, you are slipping the barrel in the upper socket via the impact of the leather mallet.

Final question, sorry to hijack.
I want my shots to move right, so I need the FRONT sight to go counter- clockwise looking at the rifle from the butt?
Correct?

Front sight/ barrel shift is going to go in the opposite direction that you had to crank the rear sight over to when you zeroed out (read if you need to take the rear sight back to left to center, then that is the direction that the FSB/barrel needs to be slipped to).
