Picked up my first FA today from my dealer. Ran to the range to dump some mags ran like a champ. When I got home I started swaping to my 10.5" upper and collapsable stock, but when I went to remove the reciever extension this thing wouldn't budge. I stopped and realized this thing has been mounted to the reciever for 20-25 yrs. so I let it soak in kroil for about an hour no change. Tried putting it in the freezer for about an hour no change. This thing feals like its welded on. Any ideas? |
![]() Is the A2 stock removed completely as shown above? Strap wrench will twist w/ a serious amount of torque, but ya might check to see if the extension is "peened" on, (although I've never seen an A2 stocked M16 that was, perhaps yours is, I know Colt peens their collapsible stocks). Mike |

No, no rollpin. Took it to my local Gsmith today, watched him heat up yh inside of the tube with a torch on low. mounted it in a vise and nothing still won't budge. Think I'm gonna let it soak in kroil over night, maybe that will work. If not I'm gonna be the dork at the range with the 10.5" barrel and the A2 stock. Update: After soaking in a gallon of Kroil for six hours put it back on the vise and Ping the sound of it breaking loose. Looking at the threads on both where in perfect shape they didn't even have any locktite residue. All I can say is yet another use for Kroil. I bet it would even taste good on toast. |
