I realise there is a FAQ for this but when I click on the link it just brings me to the main forums.  I also tried searching but was limited to 30 days.
Anyways
My problem is that my firing pin bent.  The original pin bent and broke so i replaced it and the new one bent and broke within 1000 rounds.  The pin was actually bent up enough to catch on the carrier itself which would not allow it to travel far enough foward to fire the round.
My question is what is wrong?  Did I get a incorrect pin?  I have an Olympic Arms CAR-15 serial number BL6xxx.  Is my bolt carrier worn to where there is too much play allowing the pin to travel in the y and z planes instead of just in the x plane allowing it to be bent easier.  Is my hammer misaligned/worn/whatever making it contact the pin at less than 90 deg?
This is my first AR and am looking for some help troubleshooting so either I can fix it or i will know what is going on when I take it to a gunsmith.
Thanks for the help.

send it back to OAI, or at least contact them. firing pins are not known for breakage so it sounds like there is something wrong with the bolt.

I have sent them an email.
I am not the original purchaser so I will not get a warranty so I was looking for the best possible solution.

it's the firing pin that is bent? not the firing pin retaining pin? short of the hole for it in the bolt face being off I can't think of a cause for a bent firing pin.

yes it is the firing pin itself.  it was ben up enough to contact the bolt carrier itself and could not go foward enough to actually trip the primer on the round.

I agree, no matter how many rds fired, it SHOULD NOT do that, sounds like a true defect. I am sure they will replace the bolt, but sometimes it could take a while, and they will want to see the one you have now. JMHO, and fact posted by Tweak!

I'm having a hard time seeing how that can happen. Which part of the pin was contacting the carrier?

the furthest part back.  where the hammer contacts it.  where it is curved for the cotter pin to hold it in.  the part closest to that but closer to the butt of the gun.  probably just confused everyone I'll try to post a pictue later tonight.

<-------------|===|  <- that part

I got my email back from OA and they just said to use a steel pin.  I had put a titanium pin in it when the stock one broke.  not really the help i was looking for.
I'm with you guys I don't see why on earth it would get bent.

something you might look at is the bolt.......sounds like the hole for the firing pin might be too big....never seen this before but its worth checking......ive inspected thousands of military m16a1 and a2 rifles and the only time i see a bent firing pin is when somebody has it out cleaning it and they drop it and someone steps on it....those things are so hard i use worn ones for a punch.

which company's pins are you using? Have you talked to them? They should break before they bend their damn hard.
