a distant relitive of mine died and we got his gun collection (24 guns in all!) one was and AR15. i took it down the a local shooting range and noticed the bolt wouldnt lock back. since i hadent looked it over since i got to the range, another shooter that had an AR-15 opend it up for me to take a look. when he opened it up the buffer spring went flying into the wild blue yonder and he noticed that the buffer retainer stuff was gone (pin and spring right?) he also said the the collapsible stock that was on it was the wrong one for the gun. so last night (a week later) i opened it up again and took the bolt apart (following the manual i got from this site) it was in good condition with a little wear on it. in the case the gun came in their was another stock(apparently the factory stock) action spring and buffer assembly so i put all those on and the bolt now locks back properly. i am planning to go to the range again tomorrow and i want to know if not having the retainer pin is a bad idea. ill try to take pictures some time. i hope this all makes sense |
