I looked around but didn't see anything that REALLY described my problem, or its using a term I'm not familiar with: Last night at the range myself and another guy had the exact same problem happen within 5 minutes of each other with the same Bushmaster XM-15s. I fired a round and the bolt carrier was stuck. I tried pulling back on the charging handle and it wouldn't budge. I was able to get the take down pin out and with a little force was able to open the rifle. The bolt carrier seems to have lodged itself and/or the casing into the bore opening.....Ejector/Ejector spring problem? Bullet stuck in the bore? HELP HELP!!! UNFIRED ROUND FTF-----Casing was bent and I was able to tap it out using a vise and punch. |
| Many new bolts will have sharp edges, same with the barrel extensions. You should always work the action many times before live firing the rifle. Try to cycle the action at least 20-30 times prior to live firing. Most manufacturers test fire their weapons prior to shipping, but due to the overwhelming demand, they may not run as many rounds through the rifle as usual. You need to mate the bolt/barrel extension before live firing. I'm not saying that there is not some type of extractor/ejector problem, that is possible, but you should be able to tell by looking at the face of another bolt to compare. If you have a stuck live round in the chamber, separate the upper half from the lower, keep pointed in a safe direction and use a screwdriver to pry the bottom of the carrier at the feedramps away and out. Be VERY careful not to let anything come close to the firing pin area as you do this. If you are not comforable doing this, you can unlock the charging handle latch with one hand while tapping the right ear with a soft mallet to break the bolt/carrier loose, again use common sense, keep muzzle pointed in a safe direction. |
