My AR this weekend after every shot was holding onto the spent case and would not eject or let go of it, until I manually had to pull it from the bolt face. What should I check. The spring and everything looked fine to me.

Ejector spring too weak or the extractor spring is too stiff.  Remove the carrier, put a case in the bolt face and see if the ejector will kick the case out without help.  I had to cut about 1/4 coil from my Wolfe HD springs for the ejector to work on 2 of my rifles.

A second thought - it might be that some polishing may be necessesary on the bolt rim opposite of the extractor.

Thanks Herzo for the quick reply, I'll give it a try.

This will happen if the ejector gets bound up with brass shavings or other debris.  You may have to strip the ejector and spring out, then flush the ejector hole out.  If you have a new spring handy, might as well put it in while its stripped.
