had major cycling problem this weekend. almost every other round would not eject. then the casing would jam the rifle. extremly frustrating. i'm thinking it must have something to do with the h-buffer and spring i just put in that came with my LMT stock. i have a colt M4 upper, bolt/carrier and olympic lower, i was using brand new colt mags and various others, and it would jam using all. weapon is not kept really clean, bolt was cleaned after last use(about 650 rounds, rifle has about 2000 total thu it) chamber and bore have never been cleaned really well. using Isreali IMI M193. last time at the range i experianced this jam maybe twice and thought it was just one of the older beat up mags i was using. any ideas on what would cause this and why would be really helpfull.

Last time I checked, the rifle's were not self cleaning.

Might want to start there before you catch hell from the other's (by them trying to chase ghosts in the rifle caused by chamber/rifle fouling problems).

rifle will be cleaned, lubed and i'm bringing spare buffer. spring, bolt and carrier to range this weekend. i'm sure the problem will be fixed. i just want to understand not only what caused it but why. why might a dirty chamber cause an ejection problem? i can understand why it could cause an extraction or feeding problem. just trying to learn what  i can so this and other problems can be avoided. thanks for feedback

Colt uses the stronger extractor springs in their M-4 bolts.  The insert on the stronger extractor spring is Black.  The color of the insert is only a marker, there is no tension difference between the black or blue insert.  If you received this bolt as being the M-4 type (stronger extractor spring with Black insert), and it had the standard strength spring (blue insert), then someone owes you are new spring.

it was a blue insert, bought it from Dennis Todd in '99($550 complete upper), living in Kalifornia i asked him to send a AR-15 carrier instead of the M16 one and maybe he swapped out bolt as well. when did they start putting the heavey springs and black followers in the M4s? maybe mine was made before that, it doesn't have T numbers.

The stronger ejection spring was part of the design spec for the M-4 from the start.

Now since you have touched on the subject of the M-4 and your upper, you may want to check to confirm that the upper is stamped M-4 (will be at the gas tube entry point of the upper receiver), and both the upper has the factory feed ramps, including the lowered feed ramps in the barrel extension on the not true m-4, clone profiled barrel (read true M-4 barrels are 14.5" and not 16").

it's a 14.5" Colt M4,has M4 stamping, ramps on barrel ext and receiver but no T numbers, what year did they start with the #'s. not that i need them, just wondering. and while we're on the subject of M4, i read that colt also makes an M4 HBAR that is reportidly in use with SOCOM forces. anybody have any info on this?
