I purchased a new Colt flat top and when the bolt is open sometimes the charging handle will release. I also have a RRA upper  where the charging handle locks (into a milled indent) in the upper receiver. My Colt upper doesn't have a milled indent to lock the charging handle in place. Is this normal for a Colt? If the charging handle doesn"t lock will this hurt anything?

there should be a notch cut there, if it's missing the upper is wrong. How is the upper marked? The CH can get bent if it doesn't lock into the upper.

Can you post pics? That's most surprising.

The upper receiver is a M4 with the extended feed ramps. I don't have any way to post a picture. Could someone post a picture of their receiver so I could compare it to mine?

A close up picture of the part of the upper where the charging handle locks to the receiver.

I found a picture of the milled section that my Colt doesn't have. I guess I'll call Colt.

I'm not sure but I believe the forging mark is a C then to the right of the C is a symbol. The symbol is kind of like a keyhole. Is this the forging mark?

The first C is Colt (maker) and the keyhole is Cerro Forge (foundry).

Sent my upper into Colt today. Probably won't get it back for a couple of months. I will let everyone know what happens.

It does now. I got it back from Colt today. I had to pay shipping to send it in but that was all. Looks like they did a real nice job. No complaints about Colt service from me.
