How badly does it suck?  It doesn't so much group as it does pattern.  The patern is about 2" high and 8 or more inches wide at 100 with both IMI 62 grainers and 193 ammo (new commercial Winchester).  On the plus side, it also patterns the same with the stuff from my can of mystery ammo that I aquired from a retired general a few eyars back.

Here's the details.  Its an EA lower with a Bushy 2 position aluminum stock.  Barrel is a Bushy 1/9 that has gone to Kurt's Kustom for a lightweight job.  No, that isn't the reason, it sucked before I sent it to him.  The upper is unknown as I bought it from Kurt.  I'm using an EO Tech holosight, but it did this back when I had irons as well.

I'm a pretty good shot with other rifles.  With my Scout rifle, I can shoot an honest MOA and my iron sighted FALs all come in at 3-4 MOA and my M1 Garand is capable of a bit under 2 MOA with me on the trigger.

Where do I start?

Crown?

ETA: Muzzle device?

Also have you tried mounting a known good quality magnified optic and then checked accuracy off of sand bags?

Muzzle device is the standard A2 flash hider.

I hadn't considered the crown.  I haven't had the FH off since the barrel was new so that didn't cross my mind.  I'll check it out tonight.

Oh... the gun has been VERY lightly used.  I'd be surprised if I had put 1000 rounds through it since I bought it in 1992.

I'm with G-Code.....check your muzzle crown.  It has a lot to do with accuracy.

I know alot of people on this site really love Kurt and his work, but a couple of years ago I sent him a barrel to be fluted.  He really fucked up the crown on my muzzle with whatever tooling he used to hold the muzzle end of the barrel for the fluting process.  It was visibly deformed and had a really rough corner on the transition between the bore and the face of the muzzle.

I had to have the muzzle recessed and recrowned to the preferred 11 degree angle to restore it.

Just a thought, probably not the case, but do you use a sling when shooting the rifle?  That might explain why the there is more spread in the horizontal direction.  By applying differing amounts of tension to the side of the barrel as you snug up the sling, it will change the point of impact.  This would be even more pronouced with a lightweight barrel.

If the barrel is not free-floated, try shooting the rifle with it just resting on the bottom of the mag, maybe even remove the handguards so that they won't be an issue and see if your groups tighten up any.

Different levels of pressure put on different points of the barrel will shift your point of aim. Without free floating the barrel or shooting from some type of extremely consistant hold it's tough to start the step by step elimination of possible problems. Any light weight setup make uneven tension in form stand out even more on the target.

As already said by others, checking the crown is a good idea.
