Just aquired an Eagle Armalite AR15 about 3 weeks ago.
Finally got to the range to shoot. AR has a heavy barrel, I asume everything else is original. Gun was new when purchased. I have seen a few articles on ammo and have tried 3 types: Winchester, UMC and I believe it was PMC or something of that nature. All 55 grain.
Problem is this, the rifle will fire 1 sometimes 2,3. or 4 rounds and then stovepipe an expended round out the side. All the ammo did the same. I checked the extractor and the ejector and both seem to be functioning properly. I pull the charging handle all the way back and the round will eject and feed the next round, and it will start all over again 1,2,3 sometimes 4 rounds and another stovepipe out the side. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

FWIW, with new AR15s it's not uncommon to have a few FTFs or FTE during the first few hundred rounds.

How well was rifle lubed when ya started, as bc/b should be fairly wet, to aid in reducing the malfunctions, sometimes associated w/ new/tight rifles.

Also you didn't say WHAT MAGS you were using?

If I had to guess you were probably using the PC mags that came w/ the rifle (10 rounder or such) and alot of the factory mags CAN be problematic....

Suggest trying USGI 20 round mags or the USGI 30 rounders and see if that doesn't improve your malfunction problems, and don't forget the CLP as ARs (especially when new) don't like to be shot DRY.

Once these issued are addressed, then we'll talk about tight chambers and you might want to review the www.ammo-oracle.com for checking on the 223/5.56mm chamber issue, incase your rifle is chambered for 223 and your shooting 5.56mm ammunition.

All I can think of at this time,

BTW, welcome to the site, [beer]

Assuming the bolt locks open on the last round reliably.  (we can rule out short stroking)

I think the extractor is dropping the empty too soon.  This can be caused by a weak extractor spring or by an ejector spring that is too strong.  (or both)

I prefer the extra power extractor springs.  You can get them from Wolff. 'gunsprings.com'  Another thing to try would be to cut a coil or two off of the ejector spring.

Probably should inspect the extractor for free movement and good engagement with an empty shell first.
