Help me decide what to get.
16" FN chf  machine gun steel
or 16" stainless
will be for a general purpose AR

Of those 2 for a GP rifle, the FN barrel for sure.  Its going to be chrome lined and at least twice the life of the SS unit.

The CHF barrel.  

Carbon steel has better lubricity than stainless does.  Which means it will last longer.  Also, it looks better, and has better resistance to failure at low temperatures.  And it looks better.  Did I mention it looks better?

Also, I don't think you'll find the stainless to be any more resistant to corrosion than the carbon steel barrel would be.
