I just bought parts for my first build and was looking for links to maybe build instructions or video (Youtube) on the lower assembly.    I'm an ex-grunt from the 80s/90s so I'm familiar with the platform but it has been some time and I could use some help with the lower build.

Here is what I bought.

After about 87 dozen threads in BIY/Troubleshooting over the years, my build advice starts with this:

The very first thing you do, is sort through all the lower parts, identify the disconnector spring (the one with a flared end), and install it in the trigger (flared end goes in).

I need tools.... I have a good work bench with a vise and various hand tools but it looks as though I need some specialized ones that I didn't know about.    That isn't so bad... I love buying new tools.

Any recommendations for the ones that you are glad you bought?   Any that were a waste of money?

Hi, I recommend that you buy a Gem State Armorer's Wrench, and,a set of Grace Roll Pin Punches. Both are Top Shelf and Made in America! If,you take my advice, you will not be disappointed.

A magazine vise block will be your best friend when it comes to building it. I've built one before were I didn't have one, lets just say I may have invented some new words in the process.

i also recommend a gem state wrench
the magpul wrench is good too i hear.
i got a set of brownells roll pin punches. i think there was a kit for the ar15 brownells put out.
get a bolt catch roll pin punch too, unless your easy, and calm, you dont want to scratch your lower.
and a mag well vise block.

all can be had minus the gemstate wrench on brownells

It is done.... weight comes in at 6.4 lbs with a single empty 30 round Magpul magazine.    So far I have $568 in it with the flip up sights, and two Magpul 30rnd magazines.

I'm buying a Primary Arms Scope which will add another pound and then I'll head out to the range to zero it.   Think I'm going to stick with the PMC 62 grain 5.56 ammo.

Just need the lower receiver and you are good to go.

That's gonna be one nice stick

Ok....just pulled the trigger on the Primary Arms 1x6 scope with the ACSS reticle so that is another $255 into the project.

Bought their "economy" mount for $25 included in that price so I hope that does the trick.

I consider that pretty good though.... have <$800 in it complete.    Now I need to buy some ammo and go have fun.

I'm assuming the picture was before you completed it?
From looking at the picture it seems you are missing the trigger, safety, and bolt catch.

And the rear sight doesn't look like it is back as far as possible?

Yea... it is all done now.   I don't have the scope yet and I've pulled off the flip-ups.    I'm going to zero and play around with the scope and leave off the iron sits for the moment.    I think the next thing is to start putting rounds down range.   I don't want any more gizmos on it.

Just an FYI, when you do put the irons back on, the rear needs to be as far back as possible.

It is a pretty boring build compared to what many of you guys are doing.     Vanilla PSA fits me just fine though.  It is pure luxury compared to what I carried in the Army.

Magpul BEV Block
Armors Wrench, if your only going to build a lower, then Tapco makes a very nice castle nut wrench for about $10.
Wheeler Delta Series AR 15 Bench Block (no absolutely necessary but highly recommended.
A good hammer, and mallet with soft ends
Set of Punches steel and brass
KAK Industries Walt's tool is highly recommended
1/4" Carriage pin (can pick it up at any hardware store, it works great for the front takedown pin detent and spring)
1/2" Torque wrench
Roll pin punches (I prefer the ones with whole in the center of the punch)
