I seen a few...
I don't know enough about a 10/22 but what do I need to build a 10/22 assuming I machine the receiver correctly? Are there build kits out there? |

You can build an entire 10/22 from aftermarket parts much like you can do with a "not-glock" glock. Don't think any build kits exist per day but you can buy upgraded assemblies and parts to basically build one out. |

I've bought factory take off parts from individuals who upgraded to aftermarket parts. The EE here can be a good source.
I've never seen "kits". Also, for the price of Razor ($116) and lack of availability of the TM receivers, I've decided when I start the project, I'm just going to mill the receiver from a billet. You can get enough raw material to make 2-3 receivers, or scrap first 1 or 2 attempts, for the price of one 80% receiver. Plans are similar for the mkIII, but I'll probably just buy a new pistol and sell the receiver after stripping the parts. |

Billet receivers? I'll need to find a blueprint somewhere. My mill is manual so I'm not sure how I can do this.
I just need a part list so if I go out and buy parts, at least I know what I need to get. By the way TM has their 10/22 receivers in stock the whole time... |

The beauty of the 10/22 is really how few parts there are to it. Nothing that really necessitates a "build kit". Once you have the receiver, you add a complete bolt assembly, a complete trigger assembly which includes the housing and mag release, a barrel, a stock, and that's just about it. The only small parts you might still have to look for would be the V block and screws to hold the barrel in, and a recoil buffer.
ETA: Don't forget magazines and ammo

Not kits per-se, but you can buy pretty much every other part you need from places like midwayusa or brownell's. There are multiple brand choices for most parts. Everything from stock replacement to tacticool. This might not be all to your taste... but it would be most of what you'd need... https://www.midwayusa.com/product/928141974/volquartsen-trigger-guard-assembly-2000-ruger-10-22 $219.99 https://www.midwayusa.com/product/305251/er-shaw-barrel-ruger-10-22-22-long-rifle-920-diameter-1-in-16-twist-18-blue $99.99 https://www.midwayusa.com/product/928141815/volquartsen-high-performance-action-parts-kit-plus-ruger-10-22 $119.99 https://www.midwayusa.com/product/145687/volquartsen-competition-bolt-assembly-ruger-10-22-target-knob-silver $229.99 https://www.midwayusa.com/product/389660/tactical-solutions-barrel-retainer-v-block-ruger-10-22-10-22-magnum-stainless-steel $18.00 https://www.midwayusa.com/product/665112/hogue-nylon-overmolded-rifle-stock-ruger-10-22-920-barrel-channel-synthetic-black $76.46 https://www.midwayusa.com/product/628767/butler-creek-steel-lips-magazine-ruger-10-22-22-long-rifle-polymer $22.49 + $99,00 for a TM-22 80% receiver and $135.00 for the 80% TM-22 Jig... assuming you already have a drill press, the drill bits and a tap & die set... Total $1020.91 + shipping... That's probably a pretty middle of the road cost. If you use a bunch of stock parts even new and especially if you buy used or take-off parts you can go much cheaper, probably by a few hundred $$$. On the other hand there are barrels and stocks in particular that are a lot more expensive than the ones I picked, easily going several hundred over that. Anyway... Like most 80% projects... this is NOT generally something you do to try to "save money". If you are on a budget you can almost always buy a factory 10/22 cheaper, especially if you buy a used one, and there are bizillions of them out there. On the other hand, you may be able to save money vs. buying a complete high end rifle from a commercial custom builder... The real reason to do this is BECAUSE YOU CAN! The joy and pride of DIY... the thumbing your nose at the anti-gunners who fear "ghosts", etc... |

If you're machining from billet, then you might consider a 597. Parts are cheaper that way, according to a chap that built a 597 pistol from scratch. |

I built 1 10/22 and decided, it is just cheaper to buy a gun over assembling the parts and finishing up the receiver, I just bought a brand new one this last weekend for $219 and it came with a sling, and case. Yeah, unless you use mostly stock parts and buy them used building one is probably going to cost at least 2x that and as I posted before, you can easily spend 4x that or even more. But... it depends on exactly what all parts you want in it. |
|
I just ordered a factory stock barrel, 40 dollars plus shipping, blued steel. Not bad. Bolt assembly is another 40 (give or take), so is trigger assembly.
I will probably get the TM one, I won't get a jig (I have a mill with DRO, what's the point?) It probably won't be very much in the end... |
