| Hello everyone! I'm sure you have all heard this a million times already....I'm a newbie working on his first full 100% build. So far I have an Anderson Stripped lower and that is it. I have been looking at 2 different uppers....the Aero Precision AR15/M16 stripped upper and the BCM AR15/M4 stripped upper. Does anyone have any experience or pictures of those uppers on the Anderson lower? I am looking for a good clean fit and I am open to other suggestions. After I have purchased my stripped upper and lower where should I go next? Parts kit? Barrel? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read and help! |

Unless you have some specific requirement for the upper (billet, side charging, slick side, etc), most uppers are the same. In fact Aero Precision makes uppers and lowers for a lot of companies. Get which ever one agrees with you budget and eye. Aero usually puts a small stylized "A" somewhere on their upper. Oh, and you won't know the fit until you physically put your two together, so its a crap shoot. I've known some people who only buy local so they can try all the combinations in person to get the best fit. Also, since you have the lower it would make sense to finish it out, buy a LPK, then you can move on to the buffer tube assembly. I don't know what you looking for from this build, but I'd leave the stock for later. At least until you flesh out your rifles purpose a little more. The LPK is also one of the more frustrating bits, with all its small parts, you may also need to buy a few tools, so its best to get it out of the way now. |

I'm biased: I like BCM and Colt for general range, training, HD and the proverbial SHTF use.
Here's what we told someone who asked (more or less) the same question a day or so ago. Now whether we were collectively any help or not, you'll have to decide for yourself. |

Forged uppers and lowers fit great, or sloppy, or somewhere in between. But, a little wobble between them doesn't do anything but annoy some people who don't understand tolerances. Better to spend $700 on the rifle and $2300 in training, than $3000 on a rifle, too. |

Unless you're looking for something specific like I stated before stripped receivers are just hunks of metal. Aside from the tolerances there's little difference. Just curious. |

Before you go about buying parts, plan your build out first. Figure out what you want it to do (if you know, you may not). Either of those uppers will be fine. I've got an Aero on my build with no issues and the BCM is pretty straight forward. |

I recently built my first rifle using an aero precision upper with the t marks and flag engravings and also just bought 2 Anderson lowers(not for that upper). I used the aero upper to check fit with the Anderson lowers and they are nice and tight. No play whatsoever between them. |

| I am wanting to go black with grey furniture. Looking at Magpul for handrail, grip, and butt stock. Trying to keep the entire build under $700 for this first one then moving onto a high end build after this one. Does a named brand buffer really matter? What parts do matter that need to be name brand? I appreciate everyone's feedback so far. I ordered the aero upper with "T" marks to go with my Anderson lower. The only thing that does matter to me on this build is that all parts MUST be MADE IN THE U.S.A.! |

The only thing that does matter to me on this build is that all parts MUST be MADE IN THE U.S.A.! Buffer tube (receiver extension) or the buffer itself? I'd make sure the receiver extension (what everyone including me calls the "buffer tube") is a forged 7075 from a good name. Pretty much everything else that comes from a reputable source and says "made in usa" is going to be gtg. I sourced most of my stuff from Anderson through a lgs. I just talked with their buyer/sales manager yesterday and she had been in touch with Anderson in the last few days, apparently Anderson is still playing catch-up from all the holiday and post holiday buying sprees we went on. fbho, best gun salesman in history! |

I'm just about finished with my build, which is an Anderson lower with an Aero M4E1 Enhanced Upper. Fit is nice and tight. It doesn't seem to have the usual barrel nut though, unless I'm misunderstanding things. The barrel nut looks similar to a castle nut and from what I can tell, there isn't any need to "time" the barrel on installation because the barrel nut does not interfere with the gas tube entry. Wherever the barrel nut stops when your torque wrench goes click is gonna work. Which is pretty cool in my book. As soon as I get some of the elusive aeroshell 33MS grease, I'll be torquing mine down. |

I'm also looking for a chrome BCG I found a Daniel defense one and that is the only one I have found. Check out trinity ordnance for the bcg. They have a lifetime warranty and have nickel boron coated in stock. I believe they're $125. I will be getting mine from there to try next. It is my recently found local gun shop. |
| I second the vote for Aero Precision receivers, good solid parts and they stand behind their quality. Another top tier maker is Mega, who also makes receivers for Rainier's brand. Ideally, upper and lower are the same brand, mostly to ensure consistent quality. - CW |
