This was my first build back in 2012. I did a lot of research then and felt comfortable with my choices at the time. Unfortunately the past few years I have not been able to devote any time to continuing my knowledge and grow in this subject, so I wanted to post my build and get feedback from anyone who is willing to give me some honest opinions, facts, tips or anything they feel they would like to share. Thank you everyone for taking the time and reading this post and I look forward to hearing from you.

*****Here is a complete and detailed list of all items in my first build. In addition I have listed upgrades that I am looking to do to this weapon as well. I have also tapered pinned my low profile gas block, and staked my stock nut as well*****

Welcome back.

Looks like a good selection of parts to me. How does it perform and what is your overall take on it?

How has your red dot held up?  Have you considered adding a magnifier?

HEADBARCODE...
Overall the weapon has held up. I ran into 1 issue so far which is the samson 9" free float hand guard in my opinion is a little cheap. It has a crack by the bolts from tightening and even day 1 when I got it, it has a slight wobble to the hand guard which doesnt allow my backup sights to keep zero. I have put less than 1000 rounds through the weapon, so I still, have not truly broke it in yet.

BACKBENCHER...
The red dot has been okay. It has kept zero but I have only shot it at an indoor range. I have looked at adding a magnifier but I want to save up for an EOTech 552 plus 3x magnifier system. I am looking at the Prinary Arms combo that they sell.

My current one-and-only is wearing a BCM KMR handguard, and has been so awesome that it will never be replaced. However, for the sake of switching things up, my next rifle will most likely get a rail from SLR. They have a great reputation for quality and offer several different models that are available in all lengths. A couple more brands that have bleeped the radar are Fortis and Midwest Industries. These are a good starting point if/when you decide to fix your baby. I would also suggest going longer than you did with the Samson. This will not only lengthen your buis radius, thus increasing accuracy, but will also balance out the aesthetics.

As far as optics, I occasionally run and have been very pleased with the Primary Arms 3x extended eye relief magnifier behind an Aimpoint micro. I've also read a lot of positive reviews on the Primary Arms advanced micro dot, so that combo would be a sound, cost efficient investment.

Samson will probably warranty that rail.  Might give 'em a call.

EOTech is dead to us.  Decent magnifier, the holographic optics turn out to be trash.  Who knew?
