15-20 ft lbs is the torque spec for the A2 flash suppressor from the tech manual when used with a peel washer.

5-10 ft lbs is the recommended torque for the Smith Vortex. Also, keep in mind that the Vortex is not made to be used with any kind of washer.

Be sure to grease the threads as well.

Thanks, I need to just snug it tight as I don't have a torque wrench.

That should be fine since the Vortex self tightens from firing.

The last time I saw the instructions a Vortex goes on hand tight.

The installation instructions that I have seen on the little cards that usually come with the Vortex say 5-10 foot pounds, nothing about hand tight.

If you are using a very short wrench you can get to 5-10 foot pounds.

I shot one of  mine only hand tight and the thing does tighten as you shoot.  Had to use a wrench to take off it later in the day as it was exceedingly tighter than when I had just installed it.

eta: Per Brownells ad; "Thread-on design requires no washer. Torque to 10 ft. lbs. maximum, self-tightens as weapon is fired."
