The problem is that you have somehow ended up in 2005. I kid. Is the noveske upper mil spec or vltor? The vltor produced uppers are not compatible with some rails.
Eta. I see now that it's milspec. I'm not sure what's causing the clearance issue, but sure someone will be along soon with more experience with the rail. |

I just received an email back from VLTOR stating that the CASV is well within spec.
Since the handguard installs down onto the barrel nut teeth, the only thing that makes any sense is that the barrel nut teeth are too close to the upper. The delta ring assembly is a Spike's mil-spec. Would anyone here recommend that I install a couple .32mm shims and see if that helps with alignment? That may be my next step before just selling the CASV. |

Why wouldn't you just push the CASV forward and install the set screw through the trough in the picatinny rail.
Isn't there a second location that has a "through bolt" that will fasten up the handguard? the handguard is secured by it's connection to the upper rail, it doesn't require seating into the barrel nut in order to secure the fit. you could shim it if you want, but I dont see an issue. |

Thanks for the info, but I don't want to attempt to install the rail while bypassing the barrel nut. I've ordered some shims and will give this a try once they arrive. you're not bypassing the barrel nut. it's a tertiary contact point.. the primary and secondary contact points are the through bolts at the pictainny rail. it quite literally can be installed without a barrel nut at all.. the handguard is not meant to "ride" the barrel nut, hence the 1/16 spacing issue you're running into. |
If you slide the rail forward a millimeter to align the holes with the upper receiver rail, the rail will only slide forward a millimeter at the barrel nut? The delta ring and spring will still capture the rail and bottom section properly. That's why the delta ring is spring loaded. Not sure what scuffs you are worried about. I have two of these, they work great. |

I have two of these, they work great. he's talking about the scuffs caused in the valley of the picatinny rails as the through bolts are inserted. again, OP, the hand guard is held in place by the two bolts that run through the picatinny rail atop the receiver, NOT by contacting or being "fully seated" at the barrel nut |

I'll give it a shot once I get it back, but i think that if I slide the handguard forward enough so that I'm not using the barrel nut, the holes won't line up with the grooves in the rail (I think they'll be farther out of alignment in the other direction).
I'll report back once the CASV is back in my hands. Thanks for the info! |
