| So I built an sbr and tried to go the cheap route of having it engraved, well it didn't turn out so great. The engraving was uneven, slanted and not centered. So after some searching I could a local metal shop that also has a class 3 FFL. They mainly do special welding on small parts and odd metals. So they were able to fill in the screwed up welding and engrave it properly. The only issue now is the magwell is bare aluminum. Should I just hit it with some spray paint or strip the whole thing and spray it with duracoat or similar product? |
| They have ceramic-based stuff in a can now and it's hard stuff when done right. The magwell is a wear area so I like protection where things slide across each other. I think this would be my choice. Easy to use and would perform adequately for your purpose. |

I'd coat it. I recently tried the Duracoat Aerosol and it went on really well. A can would definitely do a complete rifle, but keep in mind that once mixed, it's only good for about 12-24 hours. More information in the Armory-Refinishing forum if you want to do some more research.
