So, I purchased a Bushmaster stripped lower ($50) late last year with the intention of building my first rifle by this summer/fall.  Unfortunately, life got in the way and I was unable to really put any time, money, or effort into the build until now.

I am happy to say that I have finally made my first round of purchases... My original intention was to get fairly simple and relatively cheap milspec parts and to keep the build under $1000.  I think it is safe to say I failed miserably at this and I still haven't ordered all of the parts.

Currently on the way to me:

Witt Machine MRE
Daniel Defense LPK
VLTOR MUR-1a
BCM Bolt Carrier Group (MPI) - Auto
NOVESKE Lightweight Contour 16" with Bolt (why not?)

Thinking about a BCM Gunfighter charging handle as well.

The rest of the parts will be ordered soon.  I still haven't really decided on the rest, but I do have a good idea of the direction I would like to go.  I am very open to suggestions on a good rail and whatever else you guys feel would compliment the build.  Gun porn will be inbound as soon as the parts arrive and are put together.  May even make a video... Anyway, yeah... what do you guys think so far?  This is my first AR and first build... I am pretty sure the whole "Let's keep it basic and milspec" is out the window at this point haha.

How do you intend to use this?

C:  You are on track with your high-end components.  What is your design objective insofar as weight?  How much will the Noveske barrel weigh? - CW

Decide what you want out of your trigger and get a good one. I polished and springed for years until I started buying mid to high end triggers, difference is night and day. Wish I'd done it sooner. I like single stage and use the cmc flat. Suits my needs well and good value around 150. Gieselle is supposed to be the tits. Timmeny a little overpriced imo. Good luck.

This rifle is primarily a range gun with hunting a possibility.  I have always wanted a good AR and thought building one would be cool so that is really what started the idea.

As for trigger, I went with a pretty basic one.  I bought the Daniel Defense LPK and will just run that one for the time being.  The main reason for this is simply that I wanted something that worked and have no clue what my personal preference is yet.  I was looking at Geissele triggers and will likely end up getting one because I hear such good things about them, but I want to hold off and get a feel for exactly what I don't like about the basic DD trigger first. I figure that will help me figure out exactly what I am looking for.

The Noveske barrel is 30oz.  It comes with the gas tube and block so I am not sure if this is TOTAL weight or just the barrel yet.

I did decide on the rest of the parts... well, at least for the time being haha.

I THINK that is all I ordered.  Some parts may be temporary, but I tried my best to avoid the need to ever upgrade.  Trigger might be replaced with a more quality one.  Grip is currently undecided, but there is nothing wrong with Hogue.  Buffer spring might be replaced with a Springco at some point.  Buffer may be replaced but an H buffer shouldn't give me any issues.

Out of curiosity, why a delta ring handgaurd from a scratch build? No free float?
6/7/2015 9:36:49 PM EDT

The hand guard is free float.  It attaches to the top rail and the delta ring.

This should be a sweet build.  I am still deciding on a few things for my upcoming build.  For an upper, I was looking at the Vltor MUR.  What made you decide on it?

Honestly, I just liked how it looked and I liked the CASV-KM hand guard.  It looks and fits well but it is a VERY tight fit with that rear pin.  I had to buy a delrin takedown tool and tap it with a hammer to pop the pin out well enough to pull it through.  I will post some pics later of it.  It is complete now but I am not happy with the pictures I have.
