I built my lower the other day. I was super easy watching the video. I watched a different one though. The only thing I noticed is how everyone talks about how difficult the take down pin and spring are to install.
I literally set the spring in place, set the detent on and pushed it down with the pin as I slid it into place. It took less than 10 seconds to do. Lol! That was the easiest part. |

Nice video for newbies.
I especially like the "Belly holding method" There's no vise, stand, or fixture to hold the lower in place. I would recommend all parts be lubricated during assembly, not assembled dry. I would think you could have at least learned the nomenclature of the AR-15 parts to make an instructional. You did get it assembled, congratulations. -W |

Exactly this. My first lower I put together I laughed because it was so easy. Second one that little bastard shot across the room on me. Safe to say I wasn't laughing anymore

On my first one, I very carefully launched the pivot pin detent to parts unknown. A determined search with a magnet failed to turn it up. SO, I MADE ONE out of a bit of stainless steel wire. I was going to shoot that rifle that day.
Next morning, I found the damned thing in my shoe! The home made one is still in there serving satisfactorily. Since, I have had to make another one or two. They aren't that hard to make using the old O'Possum rotary grinding machine, which consists of whatever battery drill I can get my paws on, a Dremmel tool with a cut off wheel and a bit of sort of right sized wire. Have FUN! O' |

Assembling a lower was a lot easier than I expected. I'm a lot handier than a yuppie, but Mr Machine Tool I ain't. I'd never punched in a pin before assembling my first lower recently. Everything went off without a hitch. Hardest part was 1) figuring out which spring was which (I have a bunch extra from previous builds and whatnot, and stupidly put them all on the same table), and 2) finding a block to put under the receiver to install the trigger guard. All I used was a $10 leather mallet from Amazon, a Clevis pin, a flathead screwdriver, a couple of roll pin punches (#3 & 4, IIRC), a stock wrench, and a multitool.
I did it all without a video, just the Brownell's PDFs (which are about 50% of what I'd expect from an instructional, and had to keep Gewgling stuff). Managed not to fuck up the takedown spring like the "gun guy" who assembled my first lower, too. Anyway, I was expecting it to be more difficult. |
| nice video i liked it! i have been building AR's for a while and i had no idea KNS made that trigger cage. that just got added to my must have list along with the kns guide pins and pusher. but may i recommend buying the right starter punches and roll pin punches it would make assembly easier. i have a buddy that swears by using vice grips to install the trigger guard pin kind of like the C clamp you use and he covers them with tape too. and i never thought about putting a box in front of me for when i launch a spring across the room. i spent hours looking for one once because i didn't have a spare. i now have spares but with the box idea i may not need them (i hope) |

In an Emergency, the Flint Spring in a Bic Lighter can work with a little doing...but it will work... I see by the posts that many have had some minor issues doing their first build... Well I would say it gets easier with each build...but as Murphy's Law takes hold... there is always something that goes astray with each one...but that is what makes us Better Builders....Keep up the good work and Keep Building .... Even the Pros have bad days.....![]() ![]() ![]() and Thanks for the Input..... Target On... SASS |
