| Never owned an ar before, but my dad gave me his to install this retro triangle hand guard for him. The hand guard cap on his upper is round, but to install this hand guard i gotta install the triangle one that came with the hand guard. So would taking the front sight off and putting it back on fuck it up? |

So would taking the front sight off and putting it back on fuck it up? No, wouldn't necessarily fuk it up, unless you went full retard amateur on it with a big fukkin hammer. It not easy to remove/replace a pinned FSB, but it's doable if you have hand tool skills and the proper tools. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_2_138/181708_Removing_BCM_FSB_Taper_Pins.html |
| The front sight base is secured to the barrel with "taper pins". Find the side of the pin that is smaller in diameter, and drive the pin out from this side. If you have a press, this would be the best way to get them started and broke free; then finish tapping them out using a pin punch and brass hammer. If you do not have a press to start the pins, you want to use a heavy enough hammer to transfer enough kinetic energy to dislodge the taper pins; just making sure not to mushroom the taper pin when doing so. |
| I took a block of wood and drilled a hole through the center so I can rest the barrel on top of the wood and drive the pins out through the hole. You will also need to remove the flashhider and should replace the crush washer when putting everything back together. I have been able to get the FH torqued back to the proper spec with the old crush washer, but it might have been a fluke. |
