I had a 6.8 upper built with a Gibbz Arms side charging upper that I wanted to use with an Ares SCR lower, but after I got the upper built I figured out that the upper wont work with the SCR, because the SCR requires the upper to have a "relief cut" at the rear underside that is for the workings of a full auto trigger group because of the way the SCR trigger is designed. I can not use my Gibbz Arms upper because it does not have that cut. I contacted Gibbz and they are now making an upper with that cut in it, but my issue is that the 6.8 barrel is a 14.5" with a pinned Surefire Socom FH, and the gas block is pinned on.

Is it possible for me to buy a new upper and install my barrel without removing the FH and gas block?

In the picture, the Gibbz upper is on the left, and a Spikes upper, showing the relief cut, is on the right.

Assuming nothing from the the barrel to the muzzle is unusual like the upper itself is, yes.

First you'll want to remove whatever hand guard it may have, then un-pin the gas tube from the gas block and slide it out of the block and receiver, then loosen the barrel nut and remove the barrel.

The barrel nut will not be able to be removed from the barrel completely due to the pinned muzzle device, but it will just kinda float around the barrel, and if you're just going to drop the whole barrel setup onto another upper, just reverse the process, insert barrel, torque down barrel nut, and replace gas tube.

Awesome, that's what I figured just wanted to get some confirmation before I dropped the cash for another upper.
