Sorry this is probably going to be long but I think it all belongs. I was given an A2 Colt upper and decided to build from that. Over the last year (no $$$) I've been picking up parts and the only thing I'm currently waiting on is the barrel, it's on order and paid for!!!!!
I've developed a few problems along the way two that could be related to the A2 upper. 1 - my magazines don't just snap in - it takes a good wack and sometimes that doesn't work - empty or loaded it's the same. 2 - when I pull the charge handle it takes quite a bit of effort - not knowing how difficult it should be I had to wait until my son's friend got out of the Marines to tell me it was too tight. The charging handle isn't rubbing that I can see but on release it doesn't just fly back the way it probably should. The reason I think it may be related to the upper is the person that gave me the upper had the same issue with the magazines - seems that may be the reason he gave it to me.... as far as the charging I don't know what's going on. Everything seems to work OK when in parts but together it's just tight - I can't seem to see what it's dragging on but i's bad - Suggestions? Help? Questions? Thanks |

The upper doesn't hold the magazine, the lower does. The magazine catch is probably adjusted incorrectly, out of spec or the magazine might not fit. Try several different magazines. Try to clean and lube the bolt carrier and charging handle and the inside of the upper receiver with CLP and see if that loosens it up. -W
ETA: I have had to use different magazine catches to make them work on a couple rifles. All parts don't work in all guns. -W |
