I'm having to replace my FSB on one of my rifles.
It's a taper pin style.
Somebody point me in the right direction, I cannot find one that specifically says it's a taper pin type.
Also, I believe I may use a gas block with Picatinny if it makes a difference.
Thanks.

New FSB (I'm going to assume you mean an A2?) do not come pre drilled. They are usually drilled the same time as the barrel (can be done with a prior drilled barrel, but much more difficult). After, you could use straight pin, or then ream from one side to accept taper pins. As they come, new, they are not set up for either, that's something you do/chose when you install it.

Thanks. Sounds like the barrel and sight are matched.
What are other options? Secured with a screw?

Or a clamp on style.

Or just modify what you already have and cut off the top of the existing and the bayonet lug.  Do some filing and either hit with Cold Blue or some high temp flat black and call it a day, buy a rail to completely cover it and you won't even notice it.  In the end it's a bit more work but it will be the most secure gas block that was meant to fit your rifle and it didn't cost you anything that you hadn't already bought.

I'm seriously considering this FSB cutting procedure. I bought a Vortex Spitfire 3x and I see the FSB. I am thinking of the MI Gen 2 SS rail. I just don't know what length HG to go with. My AR is a carbine length gas and wife's is mid-length. Does anyone have a suggestion. Weather I use the cut down A2 FSB  or go with MI low profile gas n lock I want the longest rail I can get away with.

Any input yall?

Thanks Merry Christmas

A 9" rail will just cover a cut down FSB, but I'd suggest a rail somewhere in the 11" to 13" range but keep in mind that the longer you go the heavier it gets.  But weight is less of an issue today with all of the uber lightweight offerings on the market.
