So I am working on a 300 blackout upper, but now I think I may have a problem.  I was putting the roll pin in the low pro gas block, but I think it got bent at some point when knocking it in.  I dont have my phone with me at the moment so I cant not post a picture, but I will describe the situation as best as I can.  So the pin is fully in on one side, but not really coming out of the other.  I can tell that it went through the gas tube though.  It is almost like the pin is right at the edge of the tube.  I think what happened is that it got hung up and some of the pin bent up and got stuck on the end I was hammering from.   The tube is in there though and I cant pull it out.  It is all aligned correctly.  Would I be ok to shoot this even though the roll pin is not 100%?  I will try to get pictures asap.

I see the head you were punching from is already pretty mushroomed... But can you get it in any further?  I'd try to flush it up at least.

There may have been a small burr or something on the inside of the gas block pin hole.  If you have extra roll pins laying around, I'd tap that one out and put a new one in.  If not, I'd roll with it (if it's not a weapon you rely on for your life).  It'll likely be just fine.  Just order extra pins next time you order some parts and replace it then.

Not sure how you do things (maybe it's just a fluke), but fewer, sharper strikes will typically result in less peening of the pin than gently tapping over and over again in my experience.  It will sometimes help break a burr free or realign things if they're off by a hair.

IM me your address I will send you a pin.  They are readily available lots of places, but I know I have some, I'll send you one.

Edit:  I like to use a set of fine tip surgical foreceps to hold gas pin while I tap it in with a small mallet or hammer.  You will need support under your gas block.  I made my own block to use for support.

Your roll pin appears to be inserted far enough to do its job.  After all, its only purpose is to affix the tube to the block.  IMO, you can shoot it as is, or if you are a perfectionist, drift out the old pin and install a new one. - CW

Sometimes the gas tube can roll over a bit and cause the other end of the hole to not line up. Do you have a punch small enough to fit inside the other end of the pin hole? You can put your punch in there and kinda push it up and down to roll that gas tube back over and get the hole to line up.

Order another, leave this one in until new one comes, then tap this back out and tap new roll pin in, being careful not to mushroom the end

Buy a proper roll pin punch along with a new roll pin. Sorry to say, but that's a hack job

Because you have built hundreds of AR's and never botched a pin before?

It is what it is.

Having the proper tools enables one to get the job done right, wouldn't you agree?

I agree 100% with that statement.  I have duplicates of the proper tools.  I ruined a gas pin last week.  Reason?   I guess it was out of spec because the next on went in in 3 taps utilizing the same method.  Things happen is my only point.

Excellent advice on having the right tools for the job.
