Buddy of mine is building a rifle, and has a torque wrench that reads in inch pounds of torque instead of foot pounds. He wants to know if setting it at 360 inch pounds would be the same as 30 foot pounds, in order to properly torque the barrel nut. I think it would, but he is leary because the wrench goes to 960 inch pounds (which would be 80 foot pounds, correct?), yet the manual says it can go a maximum of 150 foot pounds. Either the manual is wrong or 960 inch pounds = 150 foot pounds in some weird way, and torquing at 360 inch pounds would be too much.

Any input? he good to go at 360 inch pounds for a barrel nut??

Or he could go to harbor freight and buy one for $10 that reads in Ft/lbs

30 may be fine but seems light to me. I try for around 50 myself.

Yes. (12 in/ft) * 30 ft*lbs = 360 in*lbs

Basic unit conversion, N*m ftw though
