Let me start by saying that I'm new to AR-15's and just got an Armalite M-15 Carbine. I'm sure I don't have to explain that the stock polymer hand guard has got to go, but I'm confused as to exactly what will fit my new AR and what won't.

Any and all rails can be made to fit. What exactly are you looking for ?

Nothing specific, but I'm open to recommendations. Wasn't sure of the fit of rails I was looking at. I just got back from the gunshop and was shown the rails they had and how they would fit my AR. I think I was thrown off by a review on a rail where the guy had a problem because the rail was oval shaped at the end.

I have not made it to the rail on my build yet and am I complete newbie. But I think the first thing seem to figure out is what is your budget. It seems to me just like every other part of an AR prices are across the board. I myself am trying to do it on a budget. So I am looking at the UTG super slim pro. I think in a 15 inch for lots of real-estate out front for iron sights.  But like I said I'm new and learning far more from this site then I can retain.

I haven't gotten to that stage yet, and I wasn't comfortable building my first AR-15 either, but when I do I have a coworker who is a gunsmith that can help me. That's a whole new world to me though and I'm just taking baby steps modding my AR-15. I did find an ade rail I like though.

I was going to buy a built rifle but this sight and a few videos have me convinced I can do it and this way I don't have to save foe the whole rifle just one part at a time.

This is the one I chose. It uses the original AR barrel nut so you wont have to change that and it has a lot of room for accessories.

Is this the rifle you have?

If so, you need a mid-length handguard. It is NOT a free-float.

ETA: Looks like they also make carbine-gassed M-15s, which would need a carbine-length handguard.

I picked some on the EE for dirt cheap they were perfect for my A2 carbine. Keep your eyes open for people dumping hand guards they didn't work for them. The set I grabbed was 50% less than buying new. And they looked brand spanking new. Good luck.
