Colt Commando Parts Set, 11.5" BBL, 5.56MM, Semi *VG*

That looks more like a Mk-18 base than a commando. Commando would have a fixed carry handle, that is a flattop with a detachable.

I really wish you hadn't posted that. I'm not even finished with my first ar build and NOW I'm starting to plan a second...*sigh*

Ha ha.. welcome to (retro) black rifle disease. No known cure...

Apex has always been top notch, in my experience. My biggest complaint is they tend to run out of parts, like A1 uppers & A1 kits, because fellow retro-heads keep buying them.

Now a Commando kit.....must resist. Can't afford a stamp & kit right now.

Drat!

The new Commando has a flattop (933 or semi 6933) and an 11.5" barrel. I like the older ones too, but still a fine weapon, and better than a Mk18 IMO.

For a couple hundred more than it would cost to assemble this kit,  u could just get a factory Colt SBR...

Fine! $300...I think I would go that  route...factory sbr with m4 marked lower...  and that is only figuring $100 for the stripped receiver/transfer. ..

Yes - a factory 6933 is a much better deal IMO.

Yup, your getting the Colt lower which alone sells for $ 3 to $ 500.00, all I would add is the carry handle sight.

6933 comes with a carry handle I believe. All the ones I've seen in the 6933 pic thread had them. Frankly, a pretty good deal, cool markings on the receiver, and no engraving necessary - just the stamp wait.

Thanks for sharing the link to the Colt LE6933 part sets that APEX is selling!

In case you want more info, here is the link to the description on the factory web site:
http://www.colt.com/Catalog/LawEnforcement/Products/ColtM4Commando.aspx#97714-features--models
The part sets do show some use, but overall are in very good condition.

The source advised that these had been in service for less than 2 years.

So, while not really a retro set of parts, they are nice.

Also, regarding photo's on the APEX web site, we select an average condition product and photograph it.

Only a few NEW products have manufacturer supplied images.

I was thinking this might be a good pistol build, especially when fitted with one of the new arm braces.

Who the hell buys from Apex for their retro parts?  Before the panic the prices were reasonable but now in my opinion they are priced too high.  There are even members who sell in the equipment exchange who think every retro part is rare.

THIS. Apex used to be a great source. I know they are good folks, but their M16 parts are just getting too high.

Good to see I'm not the only one to notice this, now for a good deal closer to retro.  16" pencil barrel on a complete carbine

At the end of last year I paid $170 for one of their beater 603 uppers.

Didn't know any better at the time...

6933s had been on sale for $950 earlier this year.  The apex kit is a ripoff.

I'm working on a local trade/deal for an older Colt Commando with an A1 receiver, it seemed quite heavy for an 11.5" pencil barrel upper,. I didn't look under the handguards, but are they thick like an HBAR under the guards?

I had one of those and it is skinny under the handguards.   It should feel like a toy.
