I ordered a DSA MilSpec stock and buffer tube assembly about a year ago from Aim Surplus.-
http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XDSACARM4Rib&name=DSA%2c+Inc.+Mil-Spec.+6-Position+Stock+Kit&groupid=995&fprdct=1 I am trying to install a Magpul STR stock on that buffer tube. I have tried, following all instructions and I cannot get it to slide on. The lock pin, when completely retracted, even using the dummy round to retract it, will not clear. Anyone had this problem with a mil spec DSA buffer tube ? |
| Take a screw driver & gently pull that metal "tube" down that the dummy round is supposed to go in & slide the stock on. That dummy round is pretty much useless IMO. You can get it to work sometimes but you have to do it just right without breaking the tip off. Report back. |

Thanks - I might pick up an awl, that might work even better in picking the pin. You're right, the bullet is useless. Next step would be to get another MilSpec tube. The tolerances on this cheap DSA tube may be out of spec. You could be correct about the DSA tube although I have no experience with them. Anything stronger than that dummy round should help you greatly in getting the pin to pull down all the way so you can slide the stock on more effortlessly. I know it's more money but I have never found a BCM, Colt or LMT (all mil-spec diameter) to be out of spec. Can't go wrong with any of those. You might try a Spike's tube from AIM Surplus as well. Those look really nice. Good luck! |

Victory The awl worked the first time. The steel tip grabbed the shoulder of the locking pin much better than the dummy round. They should include something similar, considering the price of the stock. IIRC, the last time I tried using the dummy round for something like this, I found that there was a sweet spot where it worked ok. If the dummy round wasn't in the sweet spot, I could not get it to move. Most of the time I use a screwdriver to get in there and it works fine. |
I ran into the same problem the other day. After destroying the dummy round and a real round I didn't bother continuing to mess with that little hole. If you look at the stock from the side, when you press the lever to move the stock you can see the lever pushes up on a little pin that protrudes on either side. I pressed the lever then caught the pin with a flat head screw driver and gently lifted it further than the lever could. This make removing and installing the stock a breeze.
