| Hi this is my first time posting hear, and also this is my first build of an ar, my question in where can I get a barrel from, I want it in stainless, im actually interested in those that have the spirals or flutes cut in to them. I'm mostly wanted for target shooting and varmint hunting. Also what is better 5.56 .223 or .223 wylde sorry im new to this, I've seen some but the prices vary from real cheap to really high so im confused what do yall recommend or what sites do you think is good to get them from. |

I know that Midwayusa, Brownells, Rockriverarms, Fulton-Armory and BravoCompany all have stainless barrels. There are tons of other places but those are just the ones off of the top of my head.
For a varmint and target gun, I am going to assume that you want a 20" heavy barrel? What kind of accuracy expectations? I would go with .223 Wylde as it lets you shoot 5.56 ammo, but give you the accuracy of a .223 chamber. You get what you pay for with barrels, but if your accuracy need aren't super high then you would probably be okay with a cheaper barrel. I've been happy with this barrel for my varmint build, It shoots just under 1 MOA with semi-cheap ammo which is plenty for my use. A lot of people like WOA barrels. The issue with them is the long wait due to their order volume, but if that is okay with you then they would probably be the better option. Hopefully somebody who knows more about barrels will chime in here. |

Seems like this barrel from Rainier is what you are looking for.
ETA: You didn't really list a price range, the Rainier barrels while a little spendy are well worth it. Off the top of my head they are the only spiral fluted barrels that I have seen recently. |

Off the top of my head they are the only spiral fluted barrels that I have seen recently. I came here to say Rainier also. Here is their complete line of barrels: https://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/browse&category=ar15/m16_barrels_rainierarms You probably want one of their Match or UltraMatch barrels. I'm not sold on the .223 Wylde chamber as I've seen some 5.56 guns do some pretty find shooting. What kind of range are you thinking? If your planned "varmint hunting" is shooting at 100 yds then a 16" barrel would be adequate. If you plan on doing some Whack-a-Prairie Dog at long range, then you definitely want an 18" or 20" stainless barrel. If you can't find a fluted barrel, Adco can add flutes for you:https://www.adcofirearms.com/shopservices/shop_qnew.cfm?code=Barrel%20Fluting If you want something that's not listed, just call and ask them. I'm sure there are other places that can do the work, but they are the first that came to mind. |
