| On the barrel, is the 16" length counting the threaded end for the muzzle brake, or is it 16" before the threads start? I ask because the rail I am thinking about ordering will be pushing that length and I don't want the compensator to be too short. My barrel is on it's way and I could see then, but if I know now I could have my AR done by sometime next week and that would be very awesome. |

It us measured from the crown to the bolt face using a dowel. What barrel length and what rail are you wanting to use? Quoted:

I ordered a 16 inch barrel, and this is a budget build so I found the AT3 hand rail for $109 its 15.75". I saw a video where someone said they used the AT3 on a 16" barrel but they never showed the gun. So my concern is that if I don't get a long enough brake it wont clear the guard all the way. Quoted:
Its not rocket science... Get out your ruler and measure it. Like I said, I would if the barrel was in but it hasn't arrived yet and I am just trying to get all my parts in. Probably too impatient. |

I will add for me my personal rule is rail length should be at least 1.5" less than the barrel length. I think a 15" rail on a 16" barrel is kind of pushing it. My 11.5" has a 10" rail which is just about perfect. ETA. You posted while I was replying. I wouldn't do a 15.75" on a 16" personally they is going to be right there at the muzzle device if not over it.
