I am looking a Upper Receiver Block Fixture and looking at two brands at Midway USA which is better ? (1) Wheeler Engineering Series Upper Receiver vise block kit $23.99  (2) Pro-Mag Upper Rec Vise Kit $36.99

I have had great luck with brownells brand calmshell. It has a insert where the bolt carrier goes to the receiver to keep it strong a reduce flexing.

I haven't used those brands but I'm sure they are fine

Topic moved to here I'm guessing?

I have the Promag set.

Great upper clamshell block and lower mag block; but the insert for the upper is completely useless.

This is what I have been using with no issues. I don't use the pins and I don't use it for tightening muzzle devices.

I already have the DPMS Upper fixture and have used it to install barrel nuts and have notice flex in fixture and  found out it is wrong thing to tighten & torque barrel nuts.

Spikes Tactical unit looks like DPMS unit with Extra parts and it will Flex like the DPMS fixture.

I was a little nervous about the Pro Mag set when I first bought it (due to their rep with junky AR mags). But surprisingly, it's sturdy. Lately I've been considering buying the Reaction Rod to see what others are saying. It seems that whatever type of set or tool you use, being careful is key. Anybody can screw up something with improper use of the tool or over torquing.

What brand Fixtures does the Bog Boys use like Bravo Co. / ADCO / Rainer Arms?

I just used a PSA brand (I'm sure it's a rebrand of something else) clamshell type last night. It worked flawlessly. Zero flex, I wasn't worried about crushing my upper (but then again, I didn't vise it to ridiculous pressure either, there's no need for that). $14.

In reference to the Spikes' and DPMS style blocks...

Are you sandwiching the upper between the two halves and then placing the assembly horizontally between the vice jaws?
Hard to believe there'd be any flex when used this way.

I recently got the Wheeler unit, the alignment rod works well.

Do not use this type for removing / installing barrels.  You will break your receiver.  It is fine for just holding your upper in a vise while you tinker with like mounting a scope etc.

Not when you use it correctly.

I agree.  The second block on the top rail will provide adequate support to prevent damage to the receiver.
