Hello everyone, I am new to the forum coming from the great state of Texas.
About 2 months ago I got the urge to try and build an AR, so after countless hours of reading articles online and watching assembly videos, I ordered a complete Spikes lower from Brownells. It was the one with the color filled receiver, 6 pos. stock, and t2 buffer assembly. I then ordered an Aero Precision flat top stripped upper, which I only bought because it was on sale on Brownells for $60 (I am a complete rookie so this may have not been as good as of a deal as i thought it was, and the laser engraved American flag caught my eye lol). I ordered the forward assist assembly and ejection port cover kit and installed those last night. I also have a vise block and roll pin holding punches on the way. What I am looking for is advice on a barrell, BCG, and gas block. I have read TONS about different barrels, but cant really seem to find any specific answers on what the best for my needs. All i know for sure is i want a 16 inch. This will mainly be a range gun, and maybe hog hunting from time to time. I have read alot about the CHF barrels, and most people say good things about them, but is there that noticeable of a difference to pay the extra money? The same with the nickel boron BCGs, I dont know if its necessary spending the extra money. I am a college student, so I dont have unlimited funds for the build, but i have decent job where i can probably buy one major part every two weeks. I want to have as long-lasting and as accurate of an AR as i can without spending tons of money. I have spent about $450 so far, and i would like to spend no more than $800-$900 more. So basically my questions is specifically what BCG and barrel should I purchase while still having enough for a decent handguard and gas block. Oh, and does anyone recommend a particular charging handle? Thanks in advanced for all suggestions, Rider Pictures of what i have so far (disregard the cylinder head pictures lol) http://tinypic.com/3ia3vbbs |

Head back to Brownells and purchase a Hand Lapped, Chrome Lined, Wylde Chamber 1-8 Criterion Barrel...If not in stock back order will take about 4 weeks and well worth the wait. I have the Hybrid Contour 18" rifle length gas port and the 20" Hybrid Contour rifle length gas port.
Factory Tour Krieger/Criterion Barrels... BCM charge handle medium latch...Brownells/eBay. Rail Height Gas Block:.BTE Gas Block Diamondhead Rail Height Gas Block & Diamondhead VRS™ (Versa Rail System) 7" Drop-In Handguard...DiamondHead Gas Block BCGs..MPI/Pressure Tested...GunBroker, Brownells, etc. I've also used black RRA BCGs with no complaints.RRA BCG |
| IMHO I would have suggested to head to Surplus arms and ammo. Last I checked they had a Black hole weaponry barrel for around $250 that came with a SAA stipped upper. BCG's I would advise to go with a reputable named brand. Your searches should find you so many it will make your head spin. GB's pretty much same answer and advise name brand reputable company and you are GTG. I guess my advise is look around and see what you like and can afford, stick with a reputable company with history and you will be fine. IMHO it comes down to personal preference, What do you want? Also AIM surplus is another place to look with great prices |

Wait for memorial day sales from Rainier Arms, Primary Arms and maybe a few others.
Troll Slick Gun Deals.com and use ar15partsfinder.com too. For $250, if be all over a rainier match... they are out of stock. How about this 16" rainier stainless. I like stainless barrels :) |
