| Here's the deal: I have a lower that I purcahsed as a long gun. I want to build a 300 Blackout. I am thinking that I will barrel it with a 16 inch, carbine barrel. I don't really want the spend a fortune, but I also don't want to save so much money that I won't be happy with my build. Looking for value. I plan on running about 200 rounds per month throught the barrel and I don't want to shoot out the barrel too soon. Any advice would be VERY helpful. |

There is a trusted guy on another forum I'm on, that has 12.5" and 16" uppers(minus BCG and CH) for $400 each.
link His company is Minutemen Supplies LLC 5713 Honilea Dr Broad Run, VA 20137 (571) 271-9372 https://www.facebook.com/MinutemenLLC?ref=stream |
| Get a barrel from SOTA arms here. They are tack drivers. I use one on my 16", and SOTA is gtg. Hard to beat for $139. |
| When you have a couple of hours, google 300 blackout barrels and start looking. Cost will depend on what you want. People have been happy with barrels from any of the major AR manufacturers. Midwayusa has an AR Stoner barrel that I have read good stories about. For more reading do a site: search of www.300BlkTalk.com and see what you come up with. I personally run a 16" Wilson Combat match SS on mine and love it. |

This is a pretty sweet deal on a complete upper, they sell just barrels also.
I've read a couple good reviews on them. https://sotaarms.com/component/jshopping/product/view/2/117?Itemid=0 https://sotaarms.com/component/jshopping/product/view/13/113?Itemid=0 https://sotaarms.com/component/jshopping/product/view/13/17?Itemid=0 |

Considering you have 1 post I want you to know its like 60cents to a dollar a round unless you reload. Bulk PSA 300 B ammo too. |

Yes, you've revealed my dirty little secret. It is my first post. I hope everyone can get over that. ;-)
I've been a lurker for quite some time. I usually live in the 5.56/.223 world. I've assembled a few AR's. Never done a variant, and thought I'd ask for opinions before I spend money on things I'll replace later using more money. I'll probably mostly lurk again, till I venture out of my safety zone, and need to make a decision about a build (or something) I've not done before. I do reload. Haven't loaded or reloaded 300 Blackout yet. |

Never know ppls experience level and I wanted to make sure you knew about the general ammo cost up front. (aka college kids can't afford it) Ya I agree its a hard choice, 556, 300B, 308, 7.62.. lots of picks... many more too.. 300B is a great round. |

If you aren't going to run suppressor and a very short barrel, I don't see much advantage in the variant. Maybe someone can enlighten us on this.
I run a .300AAC with a Noveske 8.2" with a Gemtech HVT. 220gr subs aren't as quiet as I was hoping....... I already have a good running Colt upper with a 14.5" barrel in 7.62x39. |

Agreed.....seems like .300 was built for 14.5 and under with it's ballistics and sub supersonic and all that great stuff!!! |

Some advantages over 7.62x39 are: part compatibility (all standard AR15 components with sole exception being the barrel / muzzle device) mag compatibility (standard AR15 mags) Reloading (if you reload, 300blk components are arguably the most available out of any cartridge [.308 bullet, 223 casing, small rifle primer]) If you don't suppress and don't reload, 7.62x39 > 300 blk in my opinion though. |

Well I want to thank you all so far. Now I am seriously considering a pistol build now. 10.5" or shorter, suppressed, with a Sig SB15 brace. I do reload, but have not done any 300 blackout yet.
It always pays off to do your homework before spending. I certainly appreciate ALL of the input so far. You've all been very helpful. |
