I finally finished my first build.  Took it to the range last week and it would either not eject the spend casing or would eject it and not feed a fresh round.  I think I've got a gas problem, and I'm assuming I need to adjust the gas block.

So here's my question, is there a proper way to adjust the block (and line up with the hole in the barrel) without just randomly moving it and praying?

The gas tube needs to slide freely into the upper receiver, and with the bolt removed, the carrier should slide over the gas tube with no binding.  That gives you vertical alignment.  A rough measure for front/rear is to space the block ~1/32" away from the stop...

This is a very primitive way of doing it, but I've taken a plastic ink pen, and just put it against the chamber of the barrel to plug it, and blown into the barrel while rotating the gas block back forth. the audible feedback and difficulty to force air our of the gas block/ tube let me know where I needed to be at and I just tightened it there.... its simple... but I've never had a problem yet. So take it for what its worth.
