I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered ad nauseum, but I have read several threads and am still not sure what to do.....I just put a new RRA lightweight 5.56 barrel in my barely used RRA carbine (less than 100 rds).  My headspace gauges are .223.  The bolt closes on both the go and no-go gauges, flush with the rear of the receiver.  Is this a problem?  Do I need 5.56 gauges to know what's happening?  Thanks for any input, folks!

The differences in .223 and 5.56 are in the leade of the barrel, ahead of the chamber, headspace is the same.

What procedure are you using for checking the headspace?

A 223 REM No-go gage will sometimes fail in a 556 NATO chamber.
This is not necessarily a safety issue.
You need a 556 NATO No-go gage (1.4706”).
If the weapon fails the 556 NATO No-go gage then I would send the barrel back.
It may be safe to fire, but at this point the barrel may wear (headspace) so it fails the Max chamber gage before the bore/throat/muzzle is worn out.
There is also a .001” difference between the 223 REM and 556 NATO Go gages that is not an issue here since your weapon failed a No-go gage.
