I have my 5.56 done and my 6.8 SPC 50% done. My next project is a AR15 Pistol. I want to build a functional pistol that doesnt have consistent problems caused by a crappy/ short gas tube, gas block. or shitty barrel. Any advice on quality parts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I had a similar goal in mind

I purchased a Spikes premium upper with a 11.5" CHF barrel , this got mated up to a DPMS lower , PSA LPK
This has a standard carbine buffer that has been "wrapped" with stitched leather - standard M4 buffer spring , H2 buffer

Magpul MOE grip , MOE hand guard , MOE vert. Fore grip

Gun measures exactly 27" ( over the limit for the vert grip )

Sights are A2 up front , MBUIS in the rear

I only have about 7 mags worth of ammo ( all lake city 55 & 62 grain ) downrange so far ( it's been very cold )

This is nothing fancy , but I'm pleased with accuracy and it's functionality

Something with a carbine length has system and built from quality parts should be just fine. Just stay away from no name parts.

I just finished my pistol build. Used a pistol length tube, BHW 7.5" barrel, KX3, spikes tungsten buffer and spring. I have put 100 rounds through it with absolutely zero cycling issues! I read as much as I could and took a little of everything in before I started buying. 100 rounds is far from being broken in but it feels as smooth as a few other of my AR's.

I did pretty much the same with a Rainier 7.5 ultramatch, also using a pistol length gas tube, the Kx3, and Spike ST-T2 buffer, it has functioned flawlessly 100% of the time! Like everyone else says, buy quality so everything is for sure in spec and it will operate fine.

If you're going to build a pistol then buy a barrel, from a known & proven manufacturer, that is designed as an AR pistol barrel. Properly designed barrels will have the correct gas port size drilled and therefore you will not have any gas problems. Even a limp-wrist will cycle!  To step it up a notch, buy an adjustable gas block and then you can tune your gas system to match exactly what you are shooting. I have built dozens of AR pistols (not ARs with 12 inch barrels and no butstock) with all sorts of muzzle devices and I have never had any gas problems, partly at least because I never tried to save a penny on a barrel. I use Noveske & Spike's Tactical barrels. I can say that I made a dozen low-priced pistols using ESS barrels (I think) and they all functioned flawlessly.

I have a Core-15 7" barrel with a standard carbine buffer and M16 BCG and mine has no hiccups, it's not as fancy as some on here but it works the same

I've done some upgrades, sights and a umbrella grip but it's essentially the same as the picture
